The Food that Makes Us is a lovely book that marries recipes and stories of the people who cook it. Combined with photos captured by my friend Szetoo Weiwen, illustration by Tuan Nini and words by Foong Li Wei, I liked how this book gives us a glimpse into the food these people make, why they make them, and how it comes together to form the often untold tales of many Malaysian kitchens. This is definitely one book every Malaysian who loves their makan should keep on their shelves.
