I get the feeling that Ready Player One will be one of those movies parents bring their kids to see, but will end up enjoying a whole lot more instead simply by virtue of having lived through the 80s. I admit, this isn’t exactly the most brilliant of movies – it is a family-style movie after all, the storyline is predictable, the challenges fairly simple – but it is a whole lot of fun, and that in itself is worth forking out the ticket price to see this.
I don’t want to burst any bubbles, or Easter eggs in the context of this movie, but just keep your eyes peeled for the little rewards you’ll receive just by paying attention. There’s actually a whole lot I didn’t notice – but a whole lot that is pretty obvious that I’m pretty sure you won’t miss. Plus, the graphics are quite sweet, and I’m so glad I didn’t watch this in 3D (if they did have such a thing) cos I’m pretty sure I would have thrown up during certain scenes otherwise.
Definitely a good choice to kick off my cinema-watching for 2018.
Now stop reading this and go watch it already!
