Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

Crazy? Some of them. Rich? Filthy. Asians? Absolutely.

Crazy Rich Asians is undoubtedly fun to watch, but is it the best thing I’ve ever watched on the silver screen? No. Not by a long shot.

I wanted this movie to be good, or at least on par with most of the Hollywood romantic comedies out there. I mean, I’ve got to root for the Asians after all. But I found the acting not entirely balanced – a little over sometimes, a little not enough the other times, and a little stiff and unconvincing the other times. Maybe it’s the editing, or the directing as well, I just felt it could have been so much better.

And trust me, I didn’t go in with a critical eye or even super high expectations.

I did enjoy most of the cinematography though. I loved the visuals of the food, and what they did with Carcosa was stunning. I guess my suspicions on what those big trucks passing by the parental’s house was for is confirmed. But wait… which were the Bangsar scenes?

Overall, it’s not a bad watch, and worth taking out a couple of hours of your day to check out, even if it’s just out of curiosity. And who knows, maybe you’ll enjoy the movie a heck of a lot more than me – because the fellow sitting next to me was hooting and hollering every step of the way for sure!
