Fans of the original CHIPS tv series may very well find this movie remake absolutely blasphemous. Personally, I don’t remember it at all, even though I’m sure I’ve watched more than a few episodes growing up. However, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t crass, vulgar, a tad bit stupid and more than a little suggestive, aka everything this movie is. But gosh darn I thought the movie version was pretty freakin hilarious.
Yes, it’s slapstick, and not the smartest (or stupidest) thing you’ll watch on any sized screen, but it was fun, had me cracking up and was a good way to spend a couple of flight hours. I thought Dax Shepard and Michael Peña pulled off their characters really well, and there were some moments in the film that were absolutely worthy of laughing out loud, if only I were in the comforts of my own home instead of sharing a plane with hundreds of other strangers! (Ok I don’t have the exact number!) And hey, a few minutes of Josh Duhamel can’t be a bad thing either, right?
I mean, I enjoyed it. You’ll have to watch the movie for yourself to figure out how you feel about it. Forget the CHIPS of the past. Just take the movie as is and maybe you’ll find yourself giggling too. I mean, even Erik Estrada was cool to roll with it.
